The Case Study
At SR/A, we understand the importance of thoughtful interior design, and meeting the unique needs of the user. As the 55+ community continues to move into high-end multi-family and mixed-use spaces, the concept of senior living has evolved. It is crucial for these environments to be safe and supportive, so that this demographic can continue to thrive throughout their golden years. We’ve cracked the code at SR/A with this case study, Flourish Senior Living. Within this space, our design philosophy centers around creating a cozy, comfortable, and safe, yet elevated space that fosters connection within the community. This design leans into a luxurious and whimsical aesthetic, offering an inviting and inspiring atmosphere.
The Approach
A critical first step in our design process is evaluating the space to optimize layout and functionality. For Flourish Senior Living, we meticulously planned the activity room, which includes a library, lounge and dining area. The dining area includes a bar, shuffleboard, and game tables so that residents have a casual place to engage in recreational activities and foster connections. The library is tucked away, across from the lounge, and is designed to be a peaceful retreat within the larger space. This area encourages reading, contemplation, and quiet conversation. The lounge includes 2 seating areas and a statement fireplace.
Creating a Luxurious Atmosphere
When taking a design to the next level, the palette and material application paves the way. Our use of warm and earthy materials introduces an element of biophilia, thus promoting wellness for the residents. The library is particularly noteworthy for its immersive ambiance, achieved through a seamless wood paneling that extends across the casework and ceiling. One of the standout features of Flourish Senior Living is the statement 360-degree panoramic fireplace. This striking addition not only provides warmth but also serves as a central gathering point, enhancing the atmosphere of the space. The fireplace is a key element in creating a home-like environment where residents can socialize and feel at ease. Other noteworthy features include the whimsical lighting selections, and the elevated fabric and wallcovering selections. By thoughtfully organizing the space, we enhance the flow, making it easier for residents to navigate and enjoy their surroundings.
